Stephanie Lewis
Ensemble Member
In her work as a yoga and meditation instructor, Stephanie finds a passion in the form of helping people feel like they belong, not only to a community but to themselves. She strives to create space that fulfills humans’ need for love, safety, and belonging. Like her artistic idol Amanda Palmer attests, no one ever has to do this ride of life alone (and sometimes collaboration provides the best way to go through it). In her everyday life, Stephanie finds that playing the role of a student keeps her curious, sharp, and energetic—she’s always eager to find a new interest or practice. Cultivating magic both onstage and off with The Impostors provides one such avenue for learning. Stephanie has a special place in her heart for Coyote, a trickster character in Navajo mythology. Featured in many tales often comically tying humans to their primal nature, Coyote is a breath of fresh air among other doom and gloom myths, and so is Stephanie.
“When I teach meditation, I tap into storytelling. I love to paint pictures with words and encourage students to visualize past, present, future, and real or imagined worlds. If through visualization and imagination I may help others find a sense of peace and clarity within, I’d say the fantastic plays a large role in my daily life. As someone living with mental illness, I’ve discovered that the worst use of my anxiety is worrying and the best use is creativity.”
